Seguí, Antonio

In the late fifties and early sixties, he traveled to Latin America with a particular stop in Mexico, where he became friends with the great Mexican muralist Siqueiros. For those years he works intensely as an illustrator for magazines and other publications. In 1963 he was invited to the Biennial of Young Painting organized by the Museum of Modern Art of Paris and he established his study in the city. The work of Seguí has a marked figurative character, with Expressionist inspiration but with cynicism, humor, and parody staining the spirit of his characters. Spreading out narratives like great frescoes, about the contradictory relationship between city and man, between his private existence and public life in modern society.

Among his most important exhibitions are: “Antonio Seguí” Galerie Claude Bernard (Paris, 1968); Lefebre Gallery, (New York, 1972); Musée de Louvain-la-Neuve (Belgium, 1983); Museum of Fine Arts (Caracas, 1991); Rufino Tamayo Museum (C. Mexico, 1997); Durban Segnini Gallery, (Miami, 2013); “I followed, the peinture in miroirs”, Musée de l’Hospice Saint-Roch, (Issoudun, 2016). His work has been represented in numerous private and public collections, such as National Museum of Fine Arts, (Argentina); Städtisches Museum, Leverkusen (Germany); Museum of Modern Art (Brazil); Museum of Modern Art, MOMA, (U.S.A) Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (U.S.A) and Museum of Fine Arts (Venezuela). Among his awards and recognitions are Prize of the Museum of Lodz, Poland, (1967); Bibliophilia Prize, Office de Promotion de I’Edition Francaise Paris, France (1978); Chevalier de L’Oré des Arts et des Lettres France (1983), the Grand Prize of Plastic Arts of the Di Tella Institute of Buenos Aires, Argentina (1989); Corresponding Member of the European Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters, France (1993).
